Team Canada Lacrosse, “True North Drill” Lacrosse Drill
Compliments of Coach Brodie Merrill and Coach Chris Sanderson

After completing our second podcast with Brodie Merrill we came away with a ton of new ideas for lacrosse drills in practice… Great player, great coach. Although in the first interview I ran out of time, (it always goes so so fast), so, in this second podcast I could not wait to ask him, “What does a practice for Team Canada Lacrosse look like?” I was anxious to hear that practice plan.

We got a chuckle from his immediate comments and then a great lacrosse drill. But first, Coach Merrill was quick to speak with some emotion about the legendary charismatic Canadian Lacrosse Goalie (also w UVA) and Coach of Team Canada, Chris Sanderson. Coach Sanderson is an iconic figure in the development of Canadian Field Lacrosse and beloved by many players, and unfortunately passed way too early after courageous his fight with brain cancer in 2012.

The naming of this lacrosse drill after Coach Sanderson’s organization, “True North,” is very important to the legacy of Canadian Lacrosse… and we all reap the benefits today. According to Brodie, this lacrosse drill has become the standard way to conclude their practices at Team Canada.

It is fast, it has a real competitive element, and a ton of fun for shorties and poles. In a sentence it is a fast 3v2 to a 4V3 drill. In the Preview sample, all of our members can listen to Brodie Merrill describe the drill in his own words, just click here and listen to the Free Member Preview, but here is my version….
