Cabrini 3V3 Build Up, Like You Have Never Seen

OK — I have spent hundreds of hours listening to coaches and writing up lacrosse drills. But I had never seen this style of lacrosse drill – what they call “3V3 Build Up” from a great coach, Steve Colfer at Cabrini.

Coach has a somewhat unique practice template, but after 20 to 30 minutes into practice they light it up and to set the fast pace of his practices with this drill. I was somewhat surprised when Coach Colfer suggested they run this each and everyday but now I have a better understanding of why. Coach suggested this is in his mind a ‘touch’ drill and it is a fast alternative to line drills for team stick work. It runs extremely fast, it is fun and exciting, but with an additional important element that teaches the players to think and react to different combinations and scenarios.

The Basic Lacrosse Drill

At Cabrini they split the squad into two distinct groups or teams and run the drill from the midfield down to each cage simultaneously, running both sides of the field. And we have a goalie in the cage. Before we discuss how we might adapt this to the smaller rosters on HS and Rec teams, lets go through the basics of the drill.

The lacrosse drill begins as a 3V3 from the midfield sprinting to the cage beginning at the midfield line.
