Scrimmage with a Theme!! That’s what they do at Denver!

OK he is amazing. Even after well over 100 hours of interviews with the best college lacrosse coaches, I am am amazed by Coach Bill Tierney. The recent podcast was so filled with new ideas I wanted to share that I had a hard time deciding on the topic for this article…. but here we go…

Even after close to 30 years coaching, Bill Tierney still finds way to just let the players play but many times they play with a teaching purpose. In short, although they still run intra-squad scrimmages with no interruptions or teaching, the emphasis is many more times, scrimmaging with a theme for a direct purpose, or a theme possibly for the day.

As you can hear in the podcast, or the Preview for all Free Members, I often try hard to convert college practice plans, especially lacrosse drills that are full field, with their 40+ man rosters to high school or youth coaches with work with much smaller rosters, or limited field space, in this case no modification necessary. All of these twists to regular scrimmages are applicable to smaller rosters, or half field applications or variations. Pretty cool eh? After you read the article you can actually listen to Coach Tierney go through the options, just click here
